Various studies show that anywhere from 7 percent to 15 percent of health care professionals will struggle with chemical dependency during their careers. In response,  DRUGSCAN® has created the “Healthcare Professional Panel” that tests for a variety of prescription drugs such as narcotics, opiates, benzodiazepines, and sedatives. DRUGSCAN®’s “Healthcare Professional Panel” is designed to detect certain medications that healthcare workers have access to and have been widely abused.

The healthcare professional panel initially tests for various drugs using ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and EIA (Enzyme Immunoassay), both proven testing methods for detecting various drugs in the body. If any of the initial screening tests are positive, the sample is confirmed using GC/MS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) and/or LC/MS (Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry), the scientific gold standard for confirming the presence of drugs in the body.  In addition to analyzing the specimen for drugs, analysis is also performed to determine if tampering has occured by the addition of an adulterating substance to the sample.

Test results are reported to your Medical Review Officer using a variety of methods such as fax, internet, and electronic.
