DRUGSCAN® Post-Mortem Testing

Experience in post-mortem testing for Medical Examiners for over 25 years.

DRUGSCAN® has been providing post-mortem testing for over 25 years to Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices throughout the mid-Atlantic area. Tests for over 200 drugs using urine, blood, bile, and vitreous fluid are performed. All positive results are confirmed using GC/MS or LC/MS/MS.

DRUGSCAN® offers both basic and expanded Drugs of Abuse and Alcohol testing panels that can be catered to meet your specific needs.

All cases are analyzed for therapeutic drugs and drugs of abuse as well as the testing of alcohol and other volatile agents (including “huffing” agents), using sodium fluoride preserved blood when available. Cases with a positive blood alcohol will also be assigned alcohol measurement in other fluids.

In some cases, additional drugs may be performed either at the request of the authority, or upon information provided by the history (i.e. carbon monoxide or fire-related deaths).
Upon completion of the testing, a written signed report is issued to the appropriate agency. All bodily fluids are kept refrigerated until testing is completed. They are then placed in secure frozen storage for at least 3 months.

DRUGSCAN® is licensed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Laboratories and the New York State Department of Health as well as federal agencies. Our reputation for excellence in science, service and quality is the reason why Medical Examiners continue to look to DRUGSCAN® year after year for their post-mortem testing needs.
